I can’t remember if it was Andy Stanley or Craig Groeschel (or maybe both) who said that the greatest danger to future success is present success. I couldn’t agree more.
But I’ll take it a step further: great success in what God has called us to in the past is the greatest obstacle to discerning what He is calling us to right now.
The trap is easy to fall into: “God called me to this and He continues to bless my obedience in obvious ways…so of course this is where I’m supposed to stay.”
In subtle ways, past success inevitably dulls the edge of our appetite for braving new adventures God beckons us into…and over time, being content with where we are now blinds us to where God is calling us to go next.
Don’t let it happen to you: never mistake past success for present calling.
