It’s a pretty simple formula: humility + ability = opportunity.
If you don’t have the ability, there are simply some opportunities you’re not going to be offered. Maybe you need to work harder or maybe you need to come to grips with what you’re wired for. But if you’re not an effective leader of 5 people, don’t expect to be given the chance to lead 50. If you haven’t managed a budget of $10,000 dollars, why would I put you in charge of $100,000?
If you don’t have humility…same thing. There are opportunities you’re not going to get, at least from me.
Notice which one comes first. Both humility and ability are necessary, but I’ll take a humble person whose ability needs development over someone with incredible skill and a sense of entitlement any day.
